This is going to piss off a bunch of people. But if it was up to me someone like this would be stripped of his citizenship and set down there to stay. This is coming from someone from this country and who has made a good living here. You don't like it.....then LEAVE!

CARACAS, Venezuela Jan 8, 2006 — The American singer and activist Harry Belafonte called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world" on Sunday and said millions of Americans support the socialist revolution of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.

Belafonte led a delegation of Americans including the actor Danny Glover and the Princeton University scholar Cornel West that met the Venezuelan president for more than six hours late Saturday and attended his television and radio broadcast on Sunday.

"No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people … support your revolution," Belafonte told Chavez during the broadcast.

The 78-year-old Belafonte, famous for his calypso-inspired music, including the "Day-O" song, was a close collaborator of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and is now a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. He also has been outspoken in criticizing the U.S. embargo of Cuba.

I agree those comments are not helpful. However, very few countries agree with the Bush policies and if Iraq turns sourer, we will bear the brunt of world criticism! This at a time when we need other countries to fight the terrorism that is growing all over the world!

There's nothing particularly sinister about Chavez as far as I can tell. He just seems to hate the US. It's hardly an uncommon attitude in South America. Belafonte's just a typical artist who's too stoned to bother researching things for himself.

"if it was up to me someone like this would be stripped of his citizenship and set down there to stay. "

I'm with you drmiller! I have no use for anyone who would utter such ignorant words on behalf of Americans. Didn't people used to get put to death for such acts of treason? And yes, going to a foreign country and stating that Americans believe their president is the greatest tyrant and terrorist in the world is treason!

Could you be a little more articulate as to why you this bothers you so? He is speaking his opinion and whether you or I agree with it, it is one that does not support the current leaders.

I agree with Doc and Slanderer!  I do not like what he said, and like doc, I would like to see him at least back up his words with deeds!  But like slanderer, he is speaking his opinion so I will support him in that regard.

I think he is a total arsehole, but he has the right to be an arsehole.

It bothers me because the guy is an idiot who lends encouragement to those who wish to do harm the the US and our way of life. I guess if he is allowed to come back to the US and lives, he will have been proven wrong about his statement. Obviously the biggest tyrant and terrorist in the world wouldn't put up with that.

I challenge Mr. Belafonte to go live in Africa, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea etc. as a regular citizen and then come back and tell us how much better those leaders are to their people. He obviously doesn't know the meaning of the word tyrant or terrorist.

It's disgraceful. I'm so angry, all I have to say is say is...

Daylight come and me wanna go home (daylight come and me wanna go home)
work all night and a drink a rum (daylight come and me wanna go home)
Come mister tally man tally me bananas (daylight come and me wanna go home)
come mister tally man tally me bananas (daylight come and me wanna go home)
A beauitful bunch of ripe banana! (daylight come and me wanna go home)
hide the deadly black tarantula! (daylight come and me wanna go home)
Day O Day O

I would agree with you if he were doing it in his own country. If he needs to go to other countries to slam his own he can stay there!

Don't people see that this short sighted attitude about people having the right to say whatever they want wherever they want is helping create the bad rep that everyone is complaining the US has. They spout about how terrible the government is without giving any fact to back it up. People around the world hear that Bush is a terrorist and eat it up.

The old saying that loose lips sink ships can be applied to a much grander scale. Wise up people!

I notice that none of the blowhards who talk about how wonderful leaders like Castro, Chavez and others are (and how terrible Prs. Bush is) are willing to go live under Castro or Chavez.

Belafonte goes down Venezuela, trashes Americans and Prs. Bush, praises Chavez, but does he stay down there? NO, he comes back to America to enjoy the standard of living here.

Hollywood.... If living in Cuba, Venezuela, or even Canada are So-o-o-o-o much better than living in the U.S... why don't you follow the examples of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow and go live where you feel you would be happier?

No these things in and of themselves are not bad. But the thread isn't about this is it? No! It's about him running off at the mouth to the press from ANOTHER country about US. For all I care he can STAY there!

You want to disagree with our "elected" leader? That's fine. But what he has sai and the way he's doing it go far beyond mere disagreement!

NOw I would support exporting him to his country of choice! And his right to be an arse hole and say anything he wants. Export first!

Cacto you should wake up and smell the coffee dude! This is a man who is doing his damnest to arm his military as quickly as possible and in huge amounts.

In that connection, in testimony before the U.S. Congress
in January 2005, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice argued that
President Chávez was minimizing democracy in Venezuela and
destabilizing security in the Latin American region.2 Subsequently,
the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) supported those arguments
and added its concern regarding Venezuelan purchases of large
quantities of arms.

A person who worships the ground Castro walks on and has meet with him in closed session numerous times.

In that connection, in April 2005,
The Economist reported that Chávez had met with Cuba’s Fidel
Castro and, among other things, proclaimed a 21st century socialist
“alternative” to U.S.-style capitalism in the Americas.9 And, U.S.-
Venezuelan verbal sparing continues unabated.

And someone that has threatened to cut off all of his countries oil importation to the US (about 16%). He may not be sinister but I would not trust him as far as I can spit. Maybe you should go read this.
