Is this article a joke? "Communist controled UN"? Just that makes the rest of the article lose all credibility.

Funny thouhg how the perspective changes depending on who you talk to. There are others who criticise the UN for the opposite reason, claiming that the UN is "USA controled".

I guess that's the problem with the UN, when you're in the middle, people from the extreme end of both sides see you as being on the other side.

I would like to see anyone claim this!  The only reason they have not trashed the US on a daily basis is the Veto in the Security council.

The UN is a farce!  They wiped away a problem, how?  They redefined it as a non-problem!

Oh, it is claimed by other non-US journalists. It is claimed by some that the USA often threatens to withdraw humanitary aid to Third World countries who don't vote the same way as them, therefore mocking the "one country one vote" principle.

Mind you, I don't agree with that either, no more than I agree that it's "communist controled". The UN isn't for or against any specific country. But as I said before, when you sit at the extreme right, everything on your left is communist, and the same goes with the other way: if you sit on the extreme left, everything on your right is facist. But there is such a thing as the middle, and IMO it's a good place to be.

No, The UN is the worst part of democracy.  The 75% of the nations that are the have nots have decided that it is easy to vote themselves largess from the US money trough.  And so they do, and then complain about the US because they are not 'poor like me'.  That is their complaint.

Seriously, Dr Guy, it has been all over the news about the UN being controlled by the US in other countries (like Iran, for example).

It really depends on who side your on at the time. "Oh the UN allowed this because the US holds its money strings" or "Oh the UN beats up on the US because of France, Russia and other EU/Middle East nations".

I am not saying that the UN isn't flawed but it is suppossed to be a national stage and like most national stages it is mostly full of hot air.
on Feb 02, 2005
... this hot air, mind you sometimes is very important, even though it is what it is "hot air".... a release for people to complain to.

OK, look at it another way, in a smaller local scale.
Bill Gates is the largest man in the USA, but yet, when he votes, his vote counts the same as the poorest guy in the country. Maybe Bill Gates says the same as you do: that the US democracy is a way 75% of the US population found to get his money (through income taxes). The UN is a democracy, one country = one vote. I though the US was the campion of democracy. Are you saying now that democracy is bad and that the more powerful people in your country should get more votes than the less powerful?

No, we're saying the UN is bad (Oil for Food scam, etc...). And where do they get off thinking they can tax US citizens?

Seriously Joe. it may be.  But that works 2 ways.  We get trashed, and they wash down their contempt in champaign bought with our money as they complain about us.  And we do what?  Nothing  At least in the UN.

SO Fine, you are right and I am wrong.  Time to say good bye to the UN.  it is not serving us or them.  SO the best thing to do is to go our seperate ways.  Thne they can trash us annd we cant control them.

Jerks.

Representative democracy!  Togo does not count as much as China.  And in the end, the Constitution is supreme.  See you Later UN. When you get democracy in your countries as well.

Exactly! While I've never really liked the UN as it stands, I always thought that it was a good organization because it gives diplomats a forum for hashing out international issues. Unfortunately they now turn their backs on the very issues they claim to be there to work out.

N. Korea threatens to develope nukes, the UN turns the the U.S. and says, "ok what are you going to do about that problem?" But wait a minute, wasn't the Korean War Ceasefire an UN thing? Wasn't the non proliferation treaty a UN thing? Hmmmm

And the whole blasted institution can crash and burn now with the exposure of the "oil for food" joke!! That bilge bowel blowhard "Kofi Annan" called for patience, restraint and "containment", all the while him and his partners in grime from France and other countries are pocketing Saddam's blood money.

May they all rot!! Every breath they take is robbing the world of perfectly good oxygen. Every time they exhale, their filth destroys the environment. You wonder why there's a hole in the ozone?? Because the Useless UN is in session, spewing their noxious fumes with every vile word they let ooze from their festering pie holes.

Other than that, I have no opinion either way. ;~D
