You have to ask yourself, "Why is this being tolerated"? It doesn't matter if you like Bush or not. He is still the president and should be treated as such.

Secret Service Mum on Bush Threat

The U.S. Secret Service won't say whether it's investigating Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu after she threatened to "punch" President Bush earlier this week during a fit of anger over Hurricane Katrina. "She might have been joking," Secret Service spokeswoman Lorie Lewis told NewsMax on Wednesday, after being told of Landrieu's comments on ABC's "This Week."

"If one person criticizes [Louisiana officials], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed to host George Stephanopoulos.

The Secret Service was provided with a full transcript of the ABC broadcast, including Landrieu's incendiary remarks. Spokeswoman Lewis promised to find out whether the agency intended to launch an investigation after reviewing the transcript. In the two days since, the Secret Service has declined to return two phone calls or respond to an email inquiring about the disposition of a possible Landrieu probe.

The agency took a tougher stance on Senatorial threats in 1994, when then-North Carolina Sen. Jesse Helms joked that President Clinton "had better watch out if he comes down here. He better have a bodyguard." After a media firestorm erupted - with some pundits complaining that Helms had committed treason - the Secret Service swung into action, launching a full blown investigation into whether Helms' statement indicated that someone in North Carolina planned to assassinate the president. "We have followed up on the comments and [have] spoken with the senator's staff," a Secret Service spokesman said at the time.

Ms. Landrieu's much more explicit threat to "punch" Bush, on the other hand, has prompted no such reaction from the agency. And the press, which rushed to condemn Helms, has pretended not to notice that Landrieu's outburst is part of a rising tide of hostility towards the Bush White House where normal boundaries of criticism have fallen by the wayside.

In recent days, Democrats have complained that the Bush administration response to Katrina was "criminal." On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said the president himself was "dangerous" for the nation. Surveying the storm damage on Thursday, Vice President Cheney was interrupted twice during an outdoor television interview by a man who shouted: "Go f - - k yourself, Mr. Vice President."

If the Landrieu case is any indication, however, apparently threats against the executive branch aren't taken as seriously as they once were

typical of the left to try and gain political points from this tragic event.

If Bush threated to punch that stupid bitch in the face the media would go insane calling for his impeachment and prison, but when a leftist does it , oh well that's ok>

This is just another example of the hate-filled left in this country.

Like I said, whether or not you like him or his policies or even voted for him at all. This just ain't right. Christ I couldn't stand "Slick Willie". But if I had seen this said about him, I'd "still" be calling for a butt-whooping. Like him or not he was our president. This is the type of ignorant drivel I tend to expect from the EU not other Americans.

Well, I am not going to shut up.  I am going to continue to point out that this whole fiasco is Mostly her and her family's fault!  Along with all the other crooked politicians in Louisiana.  So go ahead you turd headed scum sucking bayou toad, Punch me!

Hell, I'm all for it. It would be strangely satisfying to see her get blitzed by about 20 secret service agents. If I were Bush I'd have to give her a 'neener neener NEENER' as she was being frog marched away...

As for threats, I see it as irrational frustration. You can see it in a few people here. They can't make people see things the way they do. They get more brash, they write in all caps, they get banned. It's like they HAVE to change things or they are going to explode.

Conservatives have people like that, but I think we all, left and right, see them as wackos. It's much more chic for a Liberal to espouse the "Things or going to change or the world will end" attitude.

What is irratating me is they took a tougher stance over a mere threat to clinton about him needing a body guard, then they are over this.

I think the two situations are totally different.

Helms was talking about people in his home state who were angry about Bush policies, and who might be motivated to do violence to the President if the opportunity arose. The Secret Service rightly investigated, to determine if such people really existed, if they were particularly organized, and if they had the resources to accomplish anything serious.

Since the person threatening violence in this case is threatening to do the violence personally, herself, and since the Secret Service has already identified her, and already knows about her organization and resources, what else are they supposed to do?

Keep an eye on Landrieu whenever she's in the same room with Bush? Done!

Besides, how would it look if the President of the United States used his personal bodyguard to persecute a Senator of the opposite party in this way? Not that Clinton seemed to care much about appearances, when it happened to him...

If Bush threated to punch that stupid bitch in the face

Aha, Whip's gonna have your tongue Elie! Awright, awright I know you said it in the heat of the moment....and hopefully so did that senator. But whose to say they haven't investigated her. After a statement like that the secret service will certainly keep her on their radar don't you think?

I personally think that regardless of what the opposing parties feel, threats against the President is definately a no-no.

And I agree "totally"!

Therein lies the problem....they haven't said anything.
