From NewsMax:

ABC has ordered a pilot for a new show that will apparently try to mine some laughs out of the nation's political divide.

The show, called "Red and Blue," features a conservative dad who has a liberal son with kids of his own.

The father and son characters clash over, among other things, the best way to raise the youngsters.

The show springs from the minds of writers Rob Long and Dan Staley, who also wrote and produced on "Cheers."

The dad character is described by a source as "a devout conservative who worships George Bush (either one), Charlton Heston, Rush Limbaugh and God, not necessarily in that order. A man who likes red meat, Cuban cigars, traditional monogamous morality and processed sugar."

The son character works as "a family therapist" and is "intellectual, liberal, vegetarian, and touchy-feely."

The Left Coast Report says contrary to Hollywood's usual fare, I expect the conservative view on "Red and Blue" to be fairly represented. One of the writers whom I've met, Rob Long, is a Hollywood renegade, and by that I mean a right-minded thinker.

Trying something different

It wont fly.  AIF was great because of the Vietnam war.  The only polarizing thing today is the democrats.

You have to have a believable foil, and the current crop of tree huggers is not it.

No, they missed it again!!

The new era "All in the Family" would see today's "Edith and Archie" as a "Snowbird" retired couple who have long since divorced, but are still living in the same Lake Michigan by summer, Gulf of Mexico by winter homes in retirement communities. The marriage of convenience thing was fun while they were raising the "Gloria", but you know how these things go...

The modern day "Gloria" and Meathead are living together in the room of the Michigan place that Edith and Archie don't use. They are 30 somethings with no jobs, but Gloria still has the money coming in from the sexual harrassment suit from when those still paid. Meathead plays computer games, complains about the environment and SUVs, but of course, still drives the HUMMER Archie leaves behind when they motor South for the winter.

Gloria and Meathead used to talk about marriage, in general "what it" terms, but now they consider both the idea and the institution an overrated "Neocon" conspiracy. Meathead and his boyfriend however, complain that there is no justice because while marriage between a man and a women is degrading, same sex marriage is liberating.

During the months that Edith and Archie are "up north", Edith reminds Archie that the fridge isn't mined and he can get his own beer! Archie offends Meathead by giving him such an unPC nichname.. Archie retorts with soon to be classic lines like, "Yeah, well "Veghead" is already being used by Charlie Sheen in "Major League" (following it with the obligatory "Archie" raspberry (some trademark moves are classic in any era or timeslot!).

((((((((((((Sorry I went so long, but you know how pilots can get!!! ))))))))))))))) ;~D
