What is going on here? Have they finally gone too far just to be PC? This was passed on to me in an e-mail. And to be quite frank I was shocked to say the least. I have no idea wether or not this is factual and I do not present it as fact.

Interesting at what a few have accomplished in changing the very system that made this country what it is!!

This is by a daughter of a murdered couple in Raytown who had a Bible and Bookstore on 63rd street. Just one more example:

When I had to testify at the murder trial of my parents a week ago, I was asked to raise my right hand. The bailiff started out "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?" I stood there and waited, but she said nothing. She said "Do you?" I was so stunned I blurted out "What happened to "so help me God'?" She came back with "Do you?" I replied yes, but I was perplexed.

Then the judge said "you can say that if you want to." I stopped, raised my right hand, and finished with "So help me God!" I told my son and daughter that when it came time for them to testify, they should do the same.

It's no wonder we have so many problems in this country. If I'd had my wits about me I'd have told them that taking God out of the courtroom is only going to result in more criminals and murderers like him being in there!

I don't know what can be done about it, but it's time we stepped up and did something. CNBC had a poll on this question. They had the highest number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls and the percentage was the same as this: 86% to keep the words, 14% against. That is a pretty commanding public response.

I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't. Now it is your turn... It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to Sit Down and
SHUT UP!!!

If you agree, pass this on, if not simply delete..the 14% obviously speak their mind on their beliefs and we who believe don't! We shake our heads and go on!

i got no idea why youd be shocked.  just a couple days ago i posted the exact wording of the oath of office as specified by the constitution and it doesnt end with 'so help me god'.    perhaps youre shocked that she violated jesus' injunction as recorded in the gospel of matthew 5:33-37

33“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.’ 34But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; 35or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

abyssmal ignorance on her part, considering her parents owned a bible bookstore.

I'm the odd conservative out when it comes to this. I agree with kingbee. The "so help me God" is fine for those who believe but it's meaningless to force someone to utter the phrase who holds no such belief. And we're talking about a civil court, not a church service. I personally have no problem making God optional in all the currently hotly contested places like the Pledge of Allegiance (which was only adopted about 50 years ago, BTW). While our country was founded on a set of Judeo-Christian principles (which just happen to be good for all, believers & non-believers alike), this is not and has never been a theocracy or "religious" country. The Constitution was written to assure that anyone could practice their own religion free of interference from others or the state. It wasn't written or intended to make Christianity the official religion of the state or to require that prayers be said before each session of Congress, etc. Religion is and should be a private, personal thing - something that guides you in your behavior towards others and in life decisions. I have no respect for or patience with indirect proselytizing via government, which is what the Pat Robertson's of the world want.

Cheers,
Daiwa

Anyone who uses the word frell in a sentence obviously watches a lot of Farscape. Maybe we're not so different, you and I...
